Last week I shared our first week of Advent read-alouds and explained our tradition of opening a book for every day of Advent. As promised, here’s our second week of books in case you’re looking for ideas:
- Sunday, December 8: The Clown of God, by Tomie dePaola
- Monday, December 9: The Little Fir Tree, by Margaret Wise Brown
- Tuesday, December 10: The Mitten, by Jan Brett
- Wednesday, December 11: Gingerbread Baby, by Jan Brett
- Thursday, December 12: The Little Drummer Boy, by Ezra Jack Keats (this will also be our new song we learn this week)
- Friday, December 13: Lucia Morning in Sweden, by Ewa Rydaker
- Saturday, December 14: Mortimer’s Christmas Manger, by Karma Wilson
As we open each book, we add it to a basket on our Advent bookshelf. It’s fun to see the collection of books and creche figures grow each week (this week we added our shepherds and sheep to the nativity scene), while the Jesse tree ornaments and Advent calendar pieces slowly disappear.

We love the quiet anticipation of Advent. I’ll be sharing our week three books soon…and then, just four more days!
